The live-action Naruto movie took a massive leap forward as director Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi) launched a worldwide casting search for Team 7: Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura.
Cretton is writing and directing with the full backing of series creator Masashi Kishimoto, who joined forces with him in 2024. Kishimoto praised Cretton’s ability to craft deeply human dramas rather than hollow spectacles, noting his open-minded collaboration. The project’s timing is ideal, capitalizing on the immense goodwill generated by Netflix’s successful One Piece adaptation.
With over 250 million manga copies in print worldwide, expectations are sky-high. The film is produced by Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Emmy Yu, Cretton, and Jeyun Munford. No release date has been set.
