At the London premiere of The Odyssey, Robert Pattinson admitted he genuinely enjoys playing villains, noting that he likes lowering expectations because it is his favorite place to be—summing it up as "undersell and overdeliver." It is a philosophy perfectly suited for an actor who has spent his post-Twilight career taking on unconventional, subversive roles.
He is putting that mindset to work in two major upcoming films. In Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, he plays Antinous, the lead suitor scheming to seize the throne. Interestingly, Pattinson views the character less as a straight villain and more as a twisted love story. Later, in Dune: Part Three, he will portray Scytale, a calculating, shapeshifting Tleilaxu Face Dancer plotting to overthrow Paul Atreides.
Tackling two completely unique antagonists showcases the remarkable range Pattinson is known for. The Odyssey hits theaters on July 17, followed by Dune: Part Three on December 18.
