Photographer Vadim Trunov has captured a brilliant photo series that makes wild red squirrels look like professional photographers. Shot in a snowy forest outside Voronezh, Russia, the images show the rodents seemingly taking pictures of birds and even each other.
The genius setup was surprisingly straightforward. Trunov mounted a Canon DSLR on a sturdy tripod in a clearing and added props like snowmen, snowballs, and pinecones. Driven by winter hunger, local squirrels and blue tits arrived to forage for food. Trunov had cleverly hidden nuts and seeds inside the props and directly onto the camera gear.
In reality, the animals weren't operating the equipment; they were just aggressively hunting for hidden treats. Trunov captured the entire comedic interaction from a distance using a second camera. The resulting illusion perfectly framed the animals as creative photographers and models.
