Marvel Studios is developing "Nova" as a theatrical feature film after pivoting from its original plan as a Disney+ series. "Loki" creator Michael Waldron is writing the screenplay and may direct the project, which remains in early development with no set production schedule, cast, or release date.
The initial streaming version, penned by "Moon Knight" writer Sabir Pirzada, was shelved in early 2025. Its movie revival reflects Marvel's broader strategy to scale back television output and focus on theatrical releases for major characters.
Comic book protagonist Richard Rider is expected to lead the film. In the comics, the teenager inherits the Nova Corps powers from a dying Rhomann Dey—a storyline that aligns with the MCU, where Thanos previously decimated Xandar. No actor has been cast yet; while Glen Powell remains a major fan favorite and Joe Keery has been rumored, Marvel has not officially confirmed either actor.
