Fiction loves the classic storytelling device where a villain spares or loses track of an infant, only for that child to return years later as their ultimate downfall.
Lord Voldemort is the ultimate example; his attempt to kill baby Harry Potter backfired, creating the very Horcrux that doomed him. Similarly, in The Lion King, Scar chooses to gaslight a young Simba and lets him escape, only for Simba to return as an adult to reclaim the throne.
Real life recently offered a wholesome spin on this "prophecy" trope. In 2007, a 20-year-old Lionel Messi bathed a 5-month-old Lamine Yamal for a UNICEF photoshoot. Nearly 17 years later, that same baby grew up to become a football prodigy, shattering records at Euro 2024 and drawing instant, poetic comparisons to Messi himself.
