Mount Omuro: Japan’s Perfectly Symmetrical Green Volcano Looks Unreal

Mount Omuro (Omuroyama) is a nearly perfect, cone-shaped volcano located in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, near the Izu area. Formed by ancient basaltic eruptions, it boasts a flawless symmetry that is incredibly rare in nature. The entire surface is covered in lush green grass, giving it the appearance of a massive, smooth hill centered around a deep, distinct crater.

Visitors can take a chairlift to the summit to walk the crater's rim, which offers sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and ocean. Interestingly, the mountain undergoes an annual controlled burn tradition known as Yamayaki, an event that preserves the unique grassland ecosystem and prevents invasive brush from taking over.

Omuroyama stands as stunning proof of nature's ability to sculpt remarkably clean geometric shapes. For travelers chasing unique natural landscapes and epic panoramic views, this destination is an absolute must for the bucket list.
