Amazon’s live-action God of War series has paused production in Vancouver after lead actor Ryan Hurst suffered a severe bicep tear during an action stunt. The injury requires surgery and lengthy rehabilitation, completely dismantling the initial hope of resuming by mid-August 2026.
Industry sources suggest principal photography may now be pushed into 2027, depending on Hurst’s recovery. Filming originally began on February 27, 2026, under the working title Anaheim Realm. Fans have raised concerns that this multi-month delay could cause continuity issues for young actor Callum Vinson (playing Atreus) due to natural growth spurts.
Despite the setback, the creative team remains intact with showrunner Ronald D. Moore and director Frederick E.O. Toye. Hurst is well-known to the franchise, having earned a BAFTA nomination for voicing and performing motion capture for Thor in God of War Ragnarök.
